Remodel and new-construction plumbing is judged by someone other than the customer, which is the useful thing about it: an inspector either passes the work or does not. Bathroom and kitchen remodels get the supply and waste re-run to where the new layout actually puts the fixtures, rather than the fixtures being nudged to suit the pipe that is already there. New construction gets the underground and the rough-in set before the slab and the walls close, which is the point at which mistakes stop being cheap. Water heaters, gas lines and fixtures are set at trim-out. Because both the plumbing and the gas-fitting licences are held here, one trade covers the water side and the gas side of the same job instead of two schedules having to agree with each other. Permits are pulled and City inspections are attended as part of the work, not treated as the homeowner or the builder problem.
